Our Story

About the Owners

One sister with a vision and another sister working a corporate job decided to switch paths completely and create their dream. Following in their parent’s footsteps, who opened the first Montessori school in Maine, Harbour Oaks Montessori School was born in 1996. Anna and Katy knew they could create an environment where peace, independence, concentration, organization, and coordination could be embedded in the young minds through education; the Montessori way.  Harbour Oaks Montessori School became a product of passion mixed with dedication for Montessori.

Anna Robichaux

Anna, with Montessori credential in Primary (ages 3-6 years) teaches her class in the mornings and can be found in the office the remainder of the day. Anna has two daughters; one perusing her college degree. She is also getting certified in Primary Montessori Education . Anna’s  other daughter  attends HOMS high school and is a talented musician. Anna plays in a soccer league and escapes to the beach whenever possible. She appreciates Montessori values and seeks opportunities to make the school more “pure” as a Montessori establishment by attending annual American Montessori Society Conferences.

 Katy Allen

Katy, with Toddler, Primary, and Lower Elementary, and Upper Elementary Montessori training to match the 26 years of teaching under her belt is currently the lead guide in the Lower Elementary classroom (1st – 3rd grade). Katy is also a Primary Montessori education instructor at the Montessori Teacher Education Institute of Atlanta. She also spearheaded the Lower Elementary Montessori certification program for the institute.

Her son, Nick, has been at HOMS his entire educational career. Graduating at 17 years old, Nick, raised an (adorable!) Golden Retriever, Brantley, to be a therapy dog. Katy enjoys weekends on the lake, attending Nick’s bike races, and photography. A huge believer in the “Maker Movement”, Katy has created the Maker Space at HOMS. Students are given raw materials of all types to create and build based on their imagination.

About the Campus

Harbour Oaks Montessori School was formed in 1996. In 1997, a group of dedicated parents formed a non-profit PTO. The primary purpose was to support HOMS in it’s goal to create the optimal Montessori environment for its children and to assist the school’s academic and social objectives. The waiting list for new children grew each year as parents began to recognize what a true Montessori program entailed. In 1999, a second primary class was opened on Lenora Church Road while plans for a custom built building was added which included an art room, library, three additional classrooms and a gymnasium. In 2009, a middle school program was added providing programs to 7th-9th grade students. In 2014, the High School program was created and is continuing to grow.
